Marcus Rashford scored an impressive brace while Phil Foden also scored once in between Rashford’s two goals. This was enough to seal an impressive win for Gareth Southgate.
Heading into the match, Southgate made a few changes to the starting line-up. He omitted Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka, who all started their first two group matches.
The head coach opted for Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden in the team. This worked wonders for the team, as the two attackers scored.
Although Rashford scored a brace and produced a Man of the Match performance, it was Phil Foden who stole the headlines for the Three Lions.
“I said it the other day that Phil is an amazing talent,” England and Manchester City teammate Kalvin Phillips told the FIFA media.
“I train with him every day now I’ve been at City, and it was only a matter of time before he did get the game time he wanted and needed. And to pop up with a goal as well, such a crucial goal, I am very happy for him as he’s worked hard.
“We’ve got great players in this team, so it’s going to be hard for some people to get in, but when you stick at it, the rewards always come. I’m very happy for him.” He added.
