Group H 2022 FIFA World Cup Review: Switzerland Get the Better of Serbia! They have managed to finish second in their group.

Switzerland beat Serbia 3-2 in their last group match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This victory means that they have made it to the last 16 of the competition.

Serbia 2:3 Switzerland – Group G

The Swiss knew that a point would be enough to seal passage into the last 16 of the tournament. However, the best approach to a football match is playing to win, not playing to draw.

They took the lead through the influential Xherdan Shaqiri in the first half. The attacker has now scored in three successive World Cup tournaments.

Serbia replied through an Aleksandar Mitrovic header in the first half. Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic then also scored to give them an unexpected lead.

Donald Breel Embolo equalised for the Swiss just before halftime to seal a captivating 45 minutes of football. This was his second goal of the competition.

Remo Freuler then scored the third and decisive goal for Switzerland in the second half. This win made sure of their qualification into the next round.

“My team said they wanted to make history,” Switzerland coach Murat Yakin told the FIFA Media. 

“We were happy with this result and the way we played. We deserved to win.” He added.
