In 2016 he scored from his own half against Cameroon representing South Africa. That strike was nominated for a FIFA Puskas award.

He was nominated alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar. He ultimately lost out to Asian striker Mohd Faiz Subri.

This is also another nod for a PSL goal scored. In between these two Kekana nominations, Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke was nominated for his overhead effort against Orlando Pirates.

Masuluke made the final three and travelled to the award show. He shared a venue with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He also ultimately lost out to Olivier Giroud after his incredible scorpion kick against Crystal Palace at the end of 2016.

“A shortlist of 11 nominees for the FIFA Puskás Award – honouring the best goal of the year – was compiled by a panel of football experts.

“Votes from FIFA.com users will whittle these down to a final trio, from which football fans voting on FIFA.com will be responsible for 50 per cent of the votes cast, with a panel of football experts providing the other 50 per cent.

“The victor from that process will be revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Zurich on Thursday 17 December.” The official FIFA statement reads.
