Jose Riveiro Believes They Were Competitive in The Nedbank Cup! The Buccaneers defeated Babina Noko over the weekend.

Orlando Pirates defeated Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday night. Head coach was happy with the determination they showed to win the trophy.

The underdogs, Babina Noko took the lead in the opening stages after Sibusiso Vilakazi capitalised on a comedy of errors from The Buccaneers. Tapelo Xoki equalized from 12-yards out after Thembinkosi Lorch earned a dubious penalty.

Terrence Dzvukamanja scored in stoppage time to secure the win for The Buccaneers.

“We didn’t play good football in this competition, but we were competitive,” Riveiro told the media after the game.

“That’s important. I think we managed to win every knockout game during the season in every competition in official matches.

“That’s going to be a huge value for the group for the future. I think at the same time the games were entertaining enough for the fans, with emotions till the end.”

The Buccaneers will also participate in the CAF Champions League next season, meaning more matches and more fatigue to the squad.

“We have the potential to go all the way. When I start the tournament, I start with the intention of going all the way and we will find difficult trips, difficult opponents, difficult decisions from the referees.

“It is a difficult competition.

“But Mamelodi Sundowns this season did a fantastic job. They showed that it is possible for SA teams to compete until the last stages.” He concluded.
