Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu Locked at 1-1 After Eventful First Half

Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu are level at 1-1 following an action-packed first half at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening. Both teams showcased intent and creativity, with January signings playing a prominent role in the proceedings.

Kaizer Chiefs handed first starts to new arrivals Glody Lilepo, Thabo Cele, and Tashreeq Morris following the weekend’s Soweto Derby. The trio quickly made an impact, contributing to Chiefs’ lively start to the match.

The hosts nearly found an early breakthrough within the opening three minutes, with Yusuf Maart and Lilepo forcing a superb double save from AmaZulu goalkeeper Richard Ofori. Chiefs continued their attacking momentum, with Mduduzi Shabalala narrowly missing the target after connecting with a cutback from Lilepo.

Chiefs eventually broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when new signing Tashreeq Morris rose high in the box, pressuring Ramahlwe Mphahlele into an own goal. However, AmaZulu responded swiftly. A clever first-time pass from Rowan Human sent Tshepang Moremi through on goal, and the forward calmly slotted past the onrushing Bruce Bvuma to level the score.

Chiefs pushed for a second goal before halftime, with Lilepo testing Ofori from the edge of the box, but the AmaZulu shot-stopper remained alert and kept the scoreline unchanged heading into the break.
