Kaizer Chiefs Eye First League Win Since August as They Face Durban City

Kaizer Chiefs return to domestic action tonight after securing a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages. The Soweto giants are desperate to end their winless run in the Betway Premiership, having last tasted victory in August.
Co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef enter the match under pressure to deliver three points. Chiefs have shown flashes of improvement in continental competition, but inconsistent league form has kept them mid-table. The technical team must now balance momentum from Africa with the demands of local competition.
Injuries are complicating their preparations. Congolese winger Glody Lilepo, who impressed before picking up a knock against AS Simba last weekend, is ruled out of the trip to KwaZulu-Natal. His absence leaves a gap in attack and forces Kaze and Ben Youssef to rethink their setup.
The situation could present an opportunity for youngster Asanele Velebayi to make his first start in Amakhosi colors. The winger has been patient since joining the club and may finally get his chance to prove his worth. Uruguayan forward Gaston Sirino is another option, offering creativity and experience in the final third.
Midfield selection will also be key. Former Mamelodi Sundowns man Lebohang Maboe, who made his first appearance as a substitute against Simba, could be handed a start. His composure and work rate could add balance to the midfield. Mfundo Vilakazi is another strong candidate after consistent performances in recent weeks.
Up front, Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro is expected to lead the line once again. He scored his first goal for Chiefs against Simba and will be eager to continue his scoring form. With Khanyisa Mayo still nursing an injury, Ighodaro has the platform to cement his place as the main striker.
The defensive setup is likely to remain stable, with Brandon Petersen in goal and Reeve Frosler, Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy, and Bradley Cross forming the back four. Sibongiseni Mthethwa should anchor the midfield, providing defensive cover behind the creative trio.
A win against Durban City would not only end Chiefs’ domestic drought but also ease growing pressure on the coaching duo. Fans expect a strong response and a performance that reflects the confidence gained from continental success.
Possible Kaizer Chiefs Line-up:
Brandon Petersen, Reeve Frosler, Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy, Bradley Cross, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe, Mfundo Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Pule Mmodi, Etiosa Ighodaro.
