Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen Confident Despite January Transfer Silence

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has dismissed concerns over the club’s quiet activity in the January transfer window. While rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have made signings to strengthen their squads, Chiefs have yet to add reinforcements, leaving some fans anxious.

Petersen believes the squad already has the quality to compete. “We have shown what we can do with the squad that we have. Players have been raising their hands, players who come in, they come and perform. I’m quite confident,” he said, addressing questions at the club’s south Johannesburg base.

The goalkeeper added that any new signings are a decision for the club. “If players are being added, that is for the club to decide. For me personally, I think we have done well so far and I don’t see any problems moving forward with the squad that we have.”

Chiefs will begin their defense of the Nedbank Cup against Stellenbosch FC in the Last 32. Petersen emphasized the challenge the match presents. “You can never underestimate Stellenbosch, no matter the number of changes they go through. It’s going to be a tough battle. Last season, we went into the cup trying to end the drought. Now that we have ended it, our mindset is to defend it and bring the trophy back home.”

He stressed the importance of consistency after the mid-season break. “For us, it was important to stay consistent and pick up from where we left off. The guys have been positive and fine-tuning where needed. The main objective is to convert our chances in the New Year. We prepared well and used this time wisely.”

Petersen’s confidence reflects Chiefs’ approach to the season. With a strong squad in place, the Soweto giants aim to defend their Nedbank Cup title and continue their positive run in the league, proving that their January transfer silence will not hinder their ambitions.
