Orlando Pirates Midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja Nears Return After Eight-Month Injury Layoff

Orlando Pirates midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja has provided an encouraging update on his recovery after missing eight months of competitive action due to injury. The 24-year-old, signed from SuperSport United last season, has struggled to cement a place in the squad, making only 11 appearances since joining in July 2024.
Pirates, who were runners-up in last season’s Nedbank Cup after losing to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the final, will face Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in the Round of 32 of the 2026 competition. The club enters the tournament with renewed hope and a strengthened squad, with Rasebotja’s return potentially key to their midfield options.
Speaking at the launch of the 2026 Nedbank Cup, Rasebotja confirmed he is slowly reintegrating into full training. “Right now, I am at a stage where I am slowly being integrated into full training. It’s also just part of my rehab. After being out of action for such a long time, to slowly be getting back to full-team training,” he said.
The midfielder will face competition for a starting spot from Thalente Mbatha, Makhehleni Makhaula, and Masindi Nemtajela, among others. His return could provide much-needed depth and versatility in the heart of Pirates’ midfield as they look to reclaim silverware.
Before facing TTM, Pirates travel to Peter Mokaba Stadium next Saturday to take on Sekhukhune United, currently top of the log. Rasebotja’s fitness and form in training will be crucial for his involvement in the coming fixtures as the Soweto giants aim to strengthen their title ambitions.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if Rasebotja can regain full match fitness and influence games in the second half of the season. His recovery is likely to play a significant role in Pirates’ push for domestic honours this term.
