Kaizer Chiefs Receive Injury Boost Ahead of Second Half of Season

Kaizer Chiefs have received a welcome boost as they prepare for the second half of the season, with at least two key players returning to full training. The Soweto giants have resumed sessions at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, south of Johannesburg, as they aim to build momentum after the AFCON break.
Chiefs sit fourth on the Betway Premiership table, collecting six wins and 24 points from 13 matches. Their first half of the season ended on a subdued note with consecutive draws against Chippa United and TS Galaxy. The team returns to action on 20 January, hosting Lamontville Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium in a crucial league clash.
Midfielder Ethan Chislett may finally make his long-awaited debut this season. The attacking midfielder missed the start of the campaign due to a second successive injury, preventing him from featuring in key first-half matches. Co-head coach Cedric Kaze confirmed Chislett’s return to full training, signaling a potential boost in creativity and attacking options for the squad.
Defender Aden McCarthy has also rejoined full training. McCarthy was absent in the last few matches before the break but has now returned to the squad. Given Msimango is gradually building fitness after a lengthy layoff and has made the substitutes bench, indicating a potential comeback in the near future. Both players are expected to strengthen Chiefs’ options in defense and midfield as the season resumes.
On the downside, centre-back Rushwin Dortley remains sidelined while recovering from a knee injury. A second surgery has delayed his return, and he has yet to participate in full training sessions. Defensive midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa is also absent from full training as he continues his recovery from an injury sustained in recent matches.
With key players returning and the squad regaining fitness, Kaizer Chiefs aim to start the second half of the season strongly. The combination of returning talent and tactical adjustments will be crucial as they look to maintain their position in the top tier of the Betway Premiership.
