Kaizer Chiefs Secure Xhosa Manyana on Loan from Cape Town City

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the loan signing of Xhosa Manyana from Cape Town City, making him the club’s first addition of the January transfer window. The deal includes an option to buy at the end of the season, giving Amakhosi the opportunity to secure the services of the promising midfielder permanently. Manyana is a Cape Town City academy graduate who has previously gained international experience in the United States.

The 21-year-old joined MLS side Cincinnati on loan in January 2025 before making his senior debut for City. During his time in the U.S., Manyana featured in nine matches for Cincinnati reserves in the MLS Next Pro. The American club chose not to exercise their purchase option, allowing him to return to Cape Town City at the start of the current campaign.

A Cape Town City insider highlighted Manyana’s journey back into first-team football. “Last season when we were going through the relegation fight he wasn’t here, he was in the United States. We waited for him to come back, and when he joined the first team at the start of our NFD season, he wasn’t fully up to speed,” the source explained. Despite a delayed reintegration, the club regards him as a player with significant potential and strong character.

Manyana’s strengths lie in his role as a defensive midfielder. The source emphasized his ability to control play from deep positions. “He sits a little bit, very comfortable on the ball, and is a really good first receiver. When you play out from the back, he knows exactly how to get the ball out. He’s also very good at controlling the game further up the field and has a strong passing range. All the qualities you want in a number six,” the insider added.

With Manyana joining the Chiefs, the club adds depth and quality to their midfield ahead of the remainder of the Betway Premiership season. His technical skills, composure, and tactical intelligence make him a valuable option for co-coaches aiming to strengthen the team’s control in the center of the park. Chiefs fans will be watching closely to see how quickly Manyana adapts and impacts the squad in the coming months.
