Devin Titus Commits Future to Stellenbosch FC Amid Relegation Battle

Stellenbosch FC midfielder Devin Titus has confirmed his decision to extend his stay at the club despite uncertainty over relegation. The 23-year-old had previously been linked with several Gauteng-based teams but opted to remain at Stellies, currently 13th on the Betway Premiership standings. Titus cited loyalty as the key reason behind his contract renewal, emphasizing his desire to repay the club’s faith in him.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Titus explained that his commitment goes beyond short-term results. “I renewed my contract and I am very happy because for me it’s about loyalty. I just want to repay them. They have been loyal to me, so I just want to repay that loyalty and win trophies with them,” he said. He added that the season is still long and there is potential for positive results despite the club’s current league position.
The midfielder reflected on a challenging December, which saw the departure of head coach Steve Barker. Barker, who handed Titus his professional debut, left Stellenbosch to take up a role at Simba SC in Tanzania. Titus described Barker as a father figure and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received under his guidance.
Barker’s departure paved the way for experienced coach Gavin Hunt to take charge. Hunt began his tenure with a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in Polokwane, a win that has boosted optimism at the club. Titus believes Hunt’s arrival is positive for Stellenbosch, noting that the coach’s approach aligns with the team’s preferred playing style.
“With Gavin Hunt coming in, it’s refreshing. It’s the same style we wanted to play, the Stellenbosch [style]. He is trying to implement that style with us and hopefully he can change the season for us,” Titus said. He added that the players are motivated to prove themselves under the new coach, with competition for starting positions increasing.
Titus’ decision to stay highlights a growing culture of commitment and loyalty at Stellenbosch FC. With Hunt’s guidance and the squad determined to improve results, the club looks to stabilize its position in the league and build momentum in the second half of the season.
