Kaizer Chiefs Set for Squad Trimming as Nabi Identifies Surplus Players

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for another round of changes after head coach Nasreddine Nabi confirmed that the squad will be trimmed. The Soweto giants went into the new campaign with a busy transfer window, bringing in more than 10 new faces to strengthen the team for both domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The new arrivals include Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebohang Maboe, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Flavio da Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro, and most recently Khanyisa Mayo. Their addition has pushed the squad size to 40 players, a number Nabi has already stated he wants to reduce.
Several players have already departed Naturena. Ranga Chivaviro, Edmilson Dove, Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Bongani Sam, Edson Castillo, and Tebogo Potsane were all shown the door. Chiefs also sold Yusuf Maart and decided against exercising the option to make Njabulo Blom’s loan permanent.
With the window still open, more exits are expected. The large influx of new signings means competition for places will intensify, and players who do not fit Nabi’s tactical setup or who are unlikely to secure regular minutes will be vulnerable. Chiefs’ management is believed to be finalizing discussions on who will be placed on the transfer list or loaned out before the deadline.
Nabi’s decision is aimed at balancing the squad and ensuring that only players with a realistic chance of contributing remain. While the club’s depth has improved significantly, the challenge will now be creating a streamlined group capable of competing effectively without the burden of carrying surplus numbers.
As the transfer window nears its close, Chiefs supporters can expect further announcements on departures as the club reshapes its squad for the season ahead.
