Kaizer Chiefs Set to Welcome Key Defenders Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Campaign

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to regain two important defensive figures after the FIFA international break as they prepare for their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign, sources close to the club have confirmed.

Rushwin Dortley and Given Msimango, both sidelined since last season, are believed to be nearing full fitness and could be available for selection once domestic football resumes. Chiefs have relied on Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy, and Inacio Miguel to cover the central defensive positions in their absence.

The return of Dortley and Msimango is seen as critical as Amakhosi face a challenging group stage against Egyptian sides Zamalek FC and Al Masry, along with Zambia’s Zesco United. Their experience and leadership in defence are expected to strengthen Chiefs’ backline ahead of continental matches.

A source told Soccer Laduma, “Remember, the coach confirmed that Given (Msimango) was fine after the last game. Both him and Rushwin (Dortley) will be available after the FIFA break. But we are not sure whether they will be match fit or ready to play. Their condition will be assessed before final decisions are made.”

Chiefs are scheduled to kick off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with an away fixture against Al Masry on November 23. Insiders believe the return of both defenders could be pivotal not only for the group stage but also for the team’s preparations going into the 2026 season.

Efforts to reach Kaizer Chiefs for official comment on Dortley and Msimango’s availability had not yielded a response at the time of publication.

With key defensive reinforcements set to return, Chiefs will look to balance their squad as they aim to make an impact in African competition while maintaining competitiveness in the Betway Premiership.
