Keagan Dolly Opens Up on TS Galaxy Exit: “It Was No Longer Worth It”

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Dolly has broken his silence on his unexpected departure from TS Galaxy, revealing the tough decision he had to make despite his desire to remain with the club.
Just a few months ago, Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi publicly expressed the club’s intentions to retain Dolly, even hinting at a long-term vision for him that extended beyond the pitch. The 32-year-old was seen as a mentor figure for younger players and someone who could eventually step into a different role within the Rockets setup.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Dolly was recently released and is now a free agent.
Speaking from the South African national team’s CHAN camp, where he is preparing with a squad dominated by unattached players, Dolly explained the reasons behind his Galaxy exit.
“I wanted to stay, but obviously a few decisions had to be made in terms of senior players and salaries and all of that,” Dolly told the media after a friendly against Angola. “The chairman spoke about it, but for me I didn’t think it was worth it anymore to stay at the club and not get what you deserve.”
“I’m at a stage in my career where it’s also about my family. I had to think long and hard about it. TS Galaxy were good to me, they’re a good club and promote a lot of youngsters, but it was just a decision I had to make for my future and my family’s future.”
The talented left-footed playmaker made a solid impression during his stint with the Mpumalanga-based side, offering much-needed experience and leadership. But as financial considerations began to weigh in and the club restructured its approach to senior players, the two parties parted ways.
Dolly’s exit comes at a time when he is looking to reignite his career, and the CHAN (African Nations Championship) provides the perfect platform. The tournament, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, kicks off this weekend, and South Africa finds itself in Group C alongside Algeria, Guinea, Niger, and Uganda.
Under the guidance of Molefi Ntseki, the CHAN squad—comprising mostly of free agents—is keen to make history and bring home silverware.
“For a lot of us, it’s an opportunity to represent our country and try to win something. It’s been 12 years since we participated in CHAN. We’re excited. There’s a good balance of youth and experience,” Dolly added.
“We know many of us are struggling to find teams, but this is a chance to come together, enjoy each other’s company, and play for national pride.”
The squad will continue its preparations with a friendly match against Baroka FC from the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Friday.
As Dolly eyes a fresh chapter in his career, his leadership in the CHAN setup may just be the catalyst that opens new doors—on and off the field.
