Khanyisa Mayo’s Move to Kaizer Chiefs Explained by CR Belouizdad Coach

CR Belouizdad coach Saeed Ramovic has revealed the reasons behind Khanyisa Mayo’s transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, citing limited playing opportunities as the main factor for approving the striker’s move.
The 27-year-old South African forward joined Chiefs after CR Belouizdad chose not to register him for the new season. Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Ramovic explained that while Mayo is a talented and professional striker, his development was being hampered by insufficient minutes on the pitch.
“Khanyisa is a quality striker and a real professional, but every player needs the right conditions to reach his best level. With us, his role was limited, and as a forward, you can’t grow without rhythm, confidence, and consistent minutes,” Ramovic said.
The coach believes the move to Chiefs provides Mayo with the platform to fulfil his potential. “At Chiefs, he will get, hopefully, that platform, and that’s why this move is the best step for him. As a head coach, my responsibility is to make decisions that respect the player’s career while also keeping the club moving forward, and this was the right solution for both sides,” he added.
Ramovic also highlighted the challenges awaiting Mayo in South Africa. Chiefs are a high-pressure environment with significant expectations. “It won’t be easy because the pressure there is high. But I believe he has the qualities to succeed. Talent opens the door, but mentality decides whether you can stay there. If he embraces the pressure, he has every chance to make it,” he said.
During his time at Belouizdad, Mayo showed his goalscoring ability despite limited opportunities, demonstrating his value as a forward. The move to Kaizer Chiefs gives him a chance to reignite his career in familiar surroundings while offering Amakhosi an experienced striker capable of contributing to their title ambitions.
Ramovic’s decision reflects both his focus on player development and his commitment to making choices that benefit the player and the club.
