Seluleko Mahlambi Aims to Forge His Own Path in South African Football

TS Galaxy forward Seluleko Mahlambi says he is focused on building his own legacy in South African football while learning from the challenges faced by his older brother, Phakamani Mahlambi.
The 21-year-old attacker has made an impressive start to his Betway Premiership campaign, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his first 11 matches. His pace, direct running, and flair have already drawn comparisons to Phakamani’s early days at Bidvest Wits, where he quickly emerged as one of South Africa’s most promising talents before earning moves to Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Seluleko acknowledges the fine line between talent and discipline, noting that his brother’s career, while full of potential, was hampered by off-field issues. Phakamani, now 27, has struggled to maintain a foothold in professional football, a situation Seluleko is determined to avoid.
Speaking at Sturrock Park ahead of Galaxy’s Carling Knockout clash with Golden Arrows, Seluleko said his brother’s experiences offer lessons as well as motivation. “I see what happened with Phaka. His talent was never the problem. It was about focus and discipline. I want to learn from that, stay grounded, and make sure I control my own path,” he said.
Galaxy coach Dan Malesela praised Seluleko’s maturity and impact. “He is talented, but what impresses me more is his mindset. He listens, learns, and applies himself. That combination can take him far,” Malesela noted.
Seluleko’s form has made him a key figure in Galaxy’s attack. His ability to take on defenders and create scoring opportunities has already contributed to the team’s strong start in the league. With the Carling Knockout fixture against Golden Arrows on the horizon, he aims to maintain his momentum and continue influencing games.
As he grows in stature within the Betway Premiership, Seluleko Mahlambi is determined to write his own story, balancing ambition with discipline, and ensuring his career trajectory follows a path different from that of his older brother. His early performances suggest he is well on his way to achieving that goal.
