Lucky Lekgwathi Believes Monnapule Saleng Can Carry Orlando Pirates! The former skipper has hugely endorsed the winger.

Monnapule Saleng was extremely impressive in his first full season for Orlando Pirates. Former club captain Lucky Lekgwathi claims that he can carry the team for years to come.

Saleng joined The Buccaneers in 2021 from Free State Stars after he finished the season as top goal scorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He spent the season on loan at Moroka Swallows from The Buccaneers.

Last season, he debuted for his parent club. He was impressive as he helped the club finish second in the DSTV Premiership as well as winning the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup.

This saw him win the MTN 8 Last Player Standing (player of the tournament) and PSL Footballers’ Player of the Season, voted for by his peers.

“He can carry Pirates,” Lekgwathi told Sowetan.

“I first met him in Polokwane, and we took a picture together and spoke about a lot of things, but most importantly I explained to him what it means to wear that jersey number 14.

“I told him the history of that number and that there are people who have worn it before and didn’t represent it properly. I also asked him what he is busy with as it was off-season that time and he told me he was doing some extra training.

“I further advised him to keep doing that so he can stay ahead of other players and when the season started, he was so lethal and uncontrollable.”
