Mamelodi Sundowns Prepare for First Home PSL Match of the Season Against AmaZulu

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to bounce back when they host AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, in their first home game of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30 South African time.

The reigning champions opened their title defence with a disappointing 1-1 away draw against Chippa United last weekend. The result drew criticism, but Sundowns are determined to show they remain strong contenders as the season progresses.

Fans can watch the match live on SuperSport Variety 4 (Channel 208) or stream it online via the DStv.com website or the DStv Now app.

Sundowns face a challenging situation off the field, with key players such as Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Khuliso Mudau, and Peter Shalulile reportedly unsettled and linked with moves away from Chloorkop. None of these players have appeared in competitive matches this season.

Meanwhile, winger Thapelo Maseko has expressed frustration on social media after being sidelined by coach Miguel Cardoso. Reports suggest Sundowns have rejected overseas offers for Maseko, keeping him at the club despite limited playing time.

Sundowns’ likely starting lineup includes goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, defenders Fawaaz Basadien, Happy Jele Modiba, Jabu Kekana, and Ricardo Lebusa, midfielders Keagan Mokoena, Keagan Allende, and Deolin Mekoa Adams, and attackers Luther Singh Rayners, Terrence Mashego Matthews, and DStv Diski Challenge graduate Sibusiso Sales.

AmaZulu enter the game on the back of a 1-0 win over PSL newcomers Orbit College. However, their performance was not convincing, and they will be eager to prove themselves against Sundowns.

Coach Arthur Zwane has rebuilt the squad significantly during the off-season, with 18 players leaving and new faces coming in. None of the Usuthu players are suspended for the match, although four players received yellow cards in the recent game.

AmaZulu’s expected lineup features goalkeeper Daniel Johnson, defenders Nkosingiphile Radebe, Riaad Hanamub, Phathutshedzo Nange Fielies, and Mxolisi Allan, midfielders Sandile Mthethwa, Pule Ekstein, Tebogo Mashigo, and Bongani Zungu, and forwards Peter Hlangabeza and Siphesihle Ngwenya.

Last season, Sundowns completed a league double over AmaZulu, winning 1-0 away in December 2024 and 2-0 at home in March 2025. However, both sides will focus on current form and squad dynamics rather than past results.

Sundowns aim to improve on their opening match performance and collect full points at home. AmaZulu will look to build on their win and cause an upset on the road.

This game promises to be a competitive encounter and a key early-season test for both teams.
