Manqoba Mngqithi Very Pleased With The Effort Of His Players! The Brazilians crashed out of the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League once again.

Al Ahly proved to be Mamelodi Sundowns’ bogey team once more as they ousted The Brazilians. Coach Manqoba Mngqithi is not faulting the effort of his players at all.

Mamelodi Sundowns fell behind very early in the game through a Yasser Ibrahim goal. They equalised through defender Mosa Lebusa to end the score line 3-1 in Al Ahly’s favour on aggregate.

“We knew it was not going to be easy, but I think we also made it a little bit more difficult by conceding from that set-piece.” Mngqithi told the media.

“We tried very hard to push them, they were sitting with a very low block which we tried to break down. Unfortunately we conceded from that corner kick and I think we did not do very well in our zones.”

Al Ahly came into the match with a healthy 2-0 first leg lead. This means that they were never under any pressure to attack Sundowns from the get go.

It was the responsibility of Sundowns to break down Al Ahly.

“We did expect that if they score we might be expected to dig a little bit deeper, and we tried. I cannot falter the players, they gave it their best shot, but on the day with everything that we tried we could not get the desired outcomes. But this is how a Champions League match will always be, you can give it so much but at times it can be difficult to penetrate such a low block.”

“We did what we had to do on the day, but unfortunately whatever we did was not enough to win the match.” He added.

Mamelodi Sundowns continue their DSTV Premiership campaign against local rivals SuperSport United tomorrow (26 May 2021). Manqoba Mngqithi Very Pleased With The Effort Of His Players!
