Maritzburg United Saddened by The Passing of Clive Barker! The death of the former head coach has been met with great sadness.
Clive Barker passed away on Saturday morning, after battling Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). Maritzburg United have sent their condolences after his death.
In addition to a successful stint as Bafana Bafana head coach, Barker also worked for domestic teams. He coached Maritzburg United on two different occasions.
His first stint was back in 2003, when the club relaunched. He returned for a short spell in 2015.
“He was a coach who will always be remembered fondly at the Pietermaritzburg club,” chairman Farook Kadodia spoke.
“It’s with great sadness that we heard of coach Clive Barker’s passing today. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and those players whose lives Clive touched.
“Clive has left a career legacy, in his short stay during his second stint at the club he had an indelible impact as he mentored our current head Coach Fadlu Davids who was his assistant in the 2015/2016 season.
“A gentleman of the game, who has done a lot for South African club football as well as the country as he was the first Bafana Bafana coach to win the 1996 Cup of Nations and oversaw the 1998 World Cup qualification, he will be sorely missed,” Kadodia concluded.
The former head coach also worked with other PSL teams as well. Maritzburg United Saddened by The Passing of Clive Barker!
