Mbule Reveals Reasons For Joining Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns‘ new signing Sipho Mbule has revealed the reasons for joining the Pretoria-based club. Mbule has been one of the main subjects in the transfer.

Mbule will represent Bafana Bastyle on a 3-year contract deal and will join up with his former teammates Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena at Chloorkop.

“I think the move to Sundowns, its like Sundowns are a team that have dominated over the years, they have a lot of good players and what’s more is that they are competing at the highest level. I was playing CAF at SuperSport but we didn’t qualify for the next season and I’ve reached the final with them but I can do more with Sundowns,” Mbule told Sundowns’ YouTube channel.

“That is why I joined Sundowns, I want to play on the highest level and I want to win trophies.”

“winning trophies is a nice thing, it’s a nice feeling, its every player’s dream. It’s an chievement that you can look up to at the end of the day. I won two MTN8 with SuperSport United and I lost the [CAF] Confederations Cup final.”

“Coming here to Sundowns, its like I am going to add more to my tally, from two to maybe more. I think I’m looking forward to playing with everyone because they have the best players and they are looking for the best players and I think what I am bringing to Sundowns is the talent that they saw at SuperSport,” he added.

However, SuperSport’s CEO Stanley Matthews says the decision of Mbule to sign for Sundowns wasn’t theirs.

“It wasn’t a decision that we made. We sat down with Sipho’s agent, Mike Makaab and we discussed what range of options are out there and what environment they felt he could give his best and be his best,” Matthews told media.

“When they came back and said they found a place in Sundowns, we did a deal and I was open and upfront for many months now, saying Sipho would most likely leave us at the end of the season.”

“It never really got to a club-bidding war or anything like that. I was really more dialogue between ourselves and Mike Makaab than anything else.”

“We are sorry to be losing a gifted player like Sipho, especially at his age where his best is yet to come,” SuperSport United FC CEO Stan Matthews said in a statement released.

“We tried all avenues to turn things around with Sipho, but in recent months it became clear that his heart and mind is not at our club and that it was best for us to part ways.

“We wish Sipho every success in football and in life and hope to see the best of him in the future as he truly has special talent that can light up the PSL and Bafana Bafana.”
