McCarthy Happy To Finally Defeat SuperSport United! AmaZulu got the better of SuperSport United at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium. Siphelele Mthembu scored the only goal of the game as Usuthu defeated Matsatsantsa.
Benni McCarthy was furious with how the reverse fixture played out at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. That game ended in a draw, when the coach felt as if they should’ve grabbed all 3 points.
He was delighted to get one over SuperSport United.
“To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed the first match that we threw 2 points away, because the way we played we didn’t deserve. They got a penalty towards the end.” McCarthy told SuperSport TV.
“Today, same tactics. Outplayed them.
“We were always in control of the game. We knew that if we controlled the midfield, we’re gonna open up Memela, getting him into the little pockets in behind their midfield and Mulenga tucking in.
“So, we allow the space for Mabiliso to overlap. So, that worked all day and then of course they’re gonna have moments were they come at us because they’re SuperSport you know.
“They’re not number 2 for no reason. They’re a quality team, good players and the tactics that they play are maybe not to everyone’s liking but its effective and it works for them.
“So, you know, we try to just manage if they’re gonna go long. ‘Are they gonna bring in Rusike or maybe even Gabuza’? That we saw later wasn’t even on the bench.
“And go to Grobler and maybe play off the second ball. So, we try to manage Cash, Makhaula and Zuki later that came in.
“If we pick up those balls, then I think we covered the game perfectly well. But then yeah, I know there was a big penalty shout, I don’t know what happened but Veli seemed like he was in control,” McCarthy added on
