Minnesota United Eye Relebohile Mofokeng After Oluwaseyi Sale

Minnesota United are set to receive a significant financial boost following the imminent sale of forward Tani Oluwaseyi, a move that could pave the way for the club to sign Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng.

Spanish side Villarreal have reportedly agreed a fee in principle of around $7.5 million (R132 million) for Oluwaseyi. The Canadian international has delivered his best season to date, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists, helping Minnesota sit second in the MLS Western Conference with seven games remaining, according to GiveMeSport.

The potential transfer fee would give Minnesota United the resources to pursue Mofokeng, who has also attracted interest from other clubs. ESPN reports that the club is close to securing the 20-year-old South African for a reported $2 million (R35.4 million).

A source within Minnesota United confirmed that the club is in ‘hot pursuit’ of Mofokeng and has agreed personal terms in principle. Orlando Pirates, however, reportedly raised their asking price late in negotiations.

The deadline for MLS transfers adds urgency to the move, with interest in Mofokeng intensifying as clubs look to finalise deals before the window closes.

If completed, the acquisition of Mofokeng would bolster Minnesota United’s attacking options alongside the anticipated departure of Oluwaseyi, providing the Loons with both financial flexibility and emerging talent.
