Mothobi Mvala joined in the close season, alongside former Highlands Park teammate Peter Shalulile. The switch from Highlands to Sundowns would not have been a tedious one as Tembisa and Midrand are next to each other.
Mvala is a very good paradox to the rest of the midfielders at the club. In recent years, Sundowns has bred and bought in an influx of technically good players who make use of small spaces and pockets.
Mvala is unlike that. He is a box-to-box midfielder who is destructive in midfield.
He offers the Sundowns technical team a different alternative in midfield.
“I am grateful that I got an opportunity to play and I always do my best.” The combustive midfielder says.
“Honestly I was mentally ready from the beginning, I understood how the team plays and what is expected from me, so when I was given a chance to play I did my best” he added.
Mvala has been very useful for The Brazilians this season. He has been used as a centre back when the club fell short in that position.
He represented himself very well as a centre back.
“So far I’ve enjoyed those positions that I played in the team, I adapt to what the team needs from me and am happy to help where the coach thinks I am better to play and contribute” Mvala continues.
He says that having experienced players like Andile Jali and Hlompho Kekana is very helpful in midfield. Especially as these type of players have seen it all and won it all.
“I am learning a lot from the senior guys, their level of professionalism is at another level, as well as their leadership. They are humble and they encourage everyone to do well whether they play or not, they work hard but smart, they are winners, I’ll say their experience rubs off on us, that’s what I like about our senior players
“I think I need to improve on taking more shots outside the box and being more consistent with my performance in the games I play” he concluded.
