The international break may have come at the right time for Maritzburg United and coach Eric Tinkler. They have lost all three of their opening league games and suffered early elimination in the MTN 8.
There was a lot of fanfare for Maritzburg United for the new season. They signed 6 new players for the new campaign.
But things have not gone according to plan so far this season, losing every single game that they have played. Their last match was a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Chippa United.
Bienvenu Nga scored a hattrick which sunk the team of choice.
“We have to rectify our mistakes – that’s cost us in a couple of matches, prior to this game,” Allie said on the club website.
“Now we have two weeks to rectify our mistakes and work towards the next game.
“Maybe the two weeks came at the right time for us to have a break from official fixtures and work on our mistakes and improve ourselves in training.”
Eric Tinkler was also disappointed by the result. Especially the way everything happened, as his side took the lead before losing the match.
“Obviously disappointed, the two penalties, and the red card made life very difficult,” coach Eric said.
“I feel for the boys – first half we performed very well, had chances to really control the match in my opinion.
“I don’t think that they were really a threat in the first half. I think they got into our box two or three times and we coped with it, barring the penalty.
“We spoke about rectifying certain areas of our game in the second half, in terms of the movement going forward.
“On the ball we needed to be better. Then you concede another penalty, 2-1 down now you’re chasing and then the red card doesn’t help.”
