Ndumiso Mabena Happy to See Benni McCarthy Flourishing! The two shared a dressing room once before.

Benni McCarthy has done well for himself since becoming part of the Manchester United coaching staff. Orlando Pirates striker Ndumiso Mabena is proud to see his former teammate flourishing.

The duo was together at The Buccaneers ten years ago, helping Orlando Pirates win their second successive treble. Since then, McCarthy retired and ventured into coaching where he managed Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC.

At the beginning of the season Erik Ten Haag assumed his head coach role at Manchester United. He swiftly appointed McCarthy as his striker’s coach, where his influence has been massive.

“He’s been my role model ever since I’ve been playing football and thank God, I had to play with him as well,” Mabena told the press on Monday.

“Seeing him coaching at Manchester United, I’m proud. He’s a South African, I’m proud as South African.

“If you can see, ever since he [Benni] got there [Marcus] Rashford has been scoring consistently. You have to be proud when one of our fellow South Africans is doing well abroad.

“I think we just have to learn from him. He’s done well for himself, for his family, for the country as well. He is the man.”
