Netherlands Defeat Gibraltar in UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying! The Dutch registered their first victory of the campaign.

Netherlands beat lowly Gibraltar 3-0 in their UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier last night. They have been able to claim their first points of the qualifying process.

The Dutch lost 4-0 away to the mighty France in their first encounter, meaning that had to do whatever it takes to get back on track. Memphis Depay gave them the lead in the first half.

Defender Nathan Ake scored a second half brace to seal the win for Netherlands.

“It doesn’t happen very often that I score twice in one game.” Ake told UEFA.

“But it was very crowded where our forwards were, so maybe that created a little more space for the rest of us. At some point I was even considering the possibility of a hat-trick, but it wasn’t to be.

“The main aim was to win the match, and besides that we wanted to score as many goals as possible. Obviously, that didn’t work out.

“That we created so many chances were good, but maybe we should have been calmer in how we tried to convert them.”

Fellow defender Matthijs De Ligt was unhappy, claiming that they could have and should have scored more goals.

“We created a huge number of chances, but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Obviously, we could have done a lot more this evening.

“I have to be honest and say this wasn’t entirely the reaction we wanted to show after the France game. We wanted to score more than three goals and give the fans more to celebrate, but it didn’t turn out that way.” He confirmed.
