Nkosingiphile Ngcobo Confident Kaizer Chiefs Can Deliver with Greater Consistency

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has voiced strong belief in Kaizer Chiefs’ ability to compete for top honours, insisting the squad possesses the quality required to succeed—if only they can find the consistency that has eluded them throughout the season.

The versatile midfielder spoke candidly about the club’s struggles during a tough campaign that has left the Glamour Boys battling to finish inside the top eight with just five matches remaining in the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season.

Despite their struggles, Ngcobo is adamant that the team has what it takes to turn things around.

“This period is very challenging and frustrating, but I really believe this is part and parcel of being at a big team like Chiefs. We need to know how to manage situations like this, and the only way to do it is to win our games,” Ngcobo told Sowetan.

Kaizer Chiefs brought in head coach Nasreddine Nabi to oversee a rebuilding phase following a disappointing 10th-place finish last season. The Tunisian tactician has since made significant squad changes, adding ten new signings across both transfer windows.

The new-look team showed early promise, but their form dipped as the season progressed, with consistency proving to be their Achilles heel.

“You can say that mentally we’ve struggled to treat the games equally, but we go to each and every game wanting to win. Same mentality, but sometimes we unfortunately lose those games [against lowly teams] and win the ones perceived to be more difficult,” Ngcobo reflected.

Amid fan frustrations and a decade-long trophy drought, Ngcobo’s comments offer a glimpse of optimism from within the camp.

“This current squad is more than capable of challenging for top honours, and I think that was evident at the start of the season, where we were unbelievable, scoring goals left, right and centre and teams knew that it was difficult to beat us,” he said. “However, we have since been struggling to maintain consistency; that’s our biggest problem.”

Despite the difficulties, Ngcobo remains steadfast in his support for the coaching staff and his teammates.

“We’re a team, and we are in this together. We will continue to fight together as a team. We have faith in our technical team, there’s no doubt about that,” he concluded.

With the season nearing its end, the pressure is mounting on Amakhosi to show signs of progress under Nabi. Whether they can rediscover their early-season form and finish strongly remains to be seen, but inside the camp, belief still burns bright.
