Patrick Mayo Believes Kaizer Chiefs Should Forget the CAF Champions League!
Amakhosi will begin their CAF Champions League extradition against PWD Bawenda of Cameroon when international football curtails for the year.
Patrick Mayo Believes Kaizer Chiefs Should Forget the CAF Champions League! Kaizer Chiefs have been banned by FIFA from registering any new players for the foreseeable future.
This transfer sanction means that Kaizer Chiefs will have to participate in the competition with two sides of the extreme.
They have older players in the likes of Khune, Parker and Katsande but they also have very young players in the squad.
Former Chiefs striker and defender Patrick Mayo believes the club should focus on their domestic successes and negate the CAF Champions League.
Mayo cites the lack of squad depth at Gavin Hunt’s disposal.
“They don’t have depth and because of that I suggest that they just focus on the domestic league and the remaining cup competition‚” Patrick Mayo told Sowetan Live.
“I don’t want to lie to you‚ they are going to struggle in the Champions League because most of the clubs that have qualified there are very strong and have experience of playing in this competition.
“It is pointless to focus on the Champions League and find yourself threatened by relegation at the end of the season.
“You need to focus more on the domestic league and push to qualify for the Champions League next season.
“They must just forget about it because‚ like I said,‚ they don’t have the depth to compete with some of the best teams on the continent who they may even meet before the group stages.”
Mayo also believes that Gavin Hunt is a good coach for Chiefs, he must just be afforded patience by the Amakhosi faithful.
“This situation that Chiefs are in now‚ you cannot really blame coach Gavin Hunt.
“He is trying to get the best out of the players that are there at his disposal and it must be said that the football they are playing now is entertaining to be honest.
“They are only short of goal scorers up front and we don’t know how things will be when Samir Nurković is available.” He also added.
