Neo Maema has provided 5 assists to striker Peter Shalulile so far this season. This is the most player assist to goals ratio this season.
Neo Maema joined from Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of the campaign. He was one of six new players to sign for the league champions.
He has been the most influential, alongside Grant Kekana, in the team. His influence has been personified by his telepathic understanding with striker Peter Shalulile.
“It has been a tough season so far with all the new players coming in.” Shalulile told the club media.
“We all have a connection, but with Maema specifically it’s just something we worked on at training. I tell him whenever you get the ball on your left foot or right foot, I will [make the run in the space], it’s more about knowing where we are on the pitch.
“He’s really good at finding players in the box, he is tops.”
Maema himself has developed a small reputation for scoring long range goals.
Despite domestic football going into a small hiatus, Shalulile is adamant that he cannot be complacent during this period.
“The festive season is more about spending time with your family. I am not too sure where I will be.
“Remember we cannot go into a ‘closing mode’ and we still have games to play in the second half of the season. But I will go and spend time with my family and then get ready to come back to work.” He added.
