Peter Shalulile’s Goal Streak Fuels His Rise at Mamelodi Sundowns

Peter Shalulile is proving once again why he remains one of the most consistent forwards in South African football. The Namibian striker has now scored in three consecutive matches for Mamelodi Sundowns, reigniting his form and setting himself up for more milestones in the yellow and blue.
Already the Premier Soccer League’s all-time top scorer with 133 goals, Shalulile continues to build on a remarkable legacy that shows no signs of slowing down. His latest strike against Orlando Pirates added to his growing tally, bringing him closer to yet another personal record.
Shalulile currently sits on 106 goals for Sundowns in the PSL era, just five shy of Daniel Mudau’s long-standing club record of 110 goals. Once he surpasses Mudau, he will hold the distinction of being the club’s most prolific scorer in the PSL era, cementing his place among the legends of South African football.
Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso praised Shalulile’s professionalism and perseverance, revealing that the forward’s return to form came after early-season uncertainty about his future at the club.
“Peter is in a good moment now, he is much happier, but that came after some issues at the beginning of the season regarding whether he was staying or not,” Cardoso explained. “He trained well throughout. We didn’t play him sooner because Iqraam Rayners was scoring regularly, and we usually don’t line up with two strikers. Peter waited with patience and hard work, as professional as he is. When Iqraam got injured, Peter stepped up and showed again his quality.”
That patience has paid off. The 32-year-old’s recent performances have not only secured valuable points for Sundowns but have also reminded fans of his sharpness inside the box. His ability to adapt, remain disciplined, and deliver when called upon reflects the mentality of an elite athlete.
Beyond domestic success, Shalulile has also made his mark on the continental stage. He became the first player from a South African club to reach 20 goals in the CAF Champions League, underlining his impact beyond local competition.
As Sundowns continue to chase silverware both locally and in Africa, Shalulile’s goals could prove decisive. His form signals a resurgence that aligns with the club’s ambitions, and his pursuit of Mudau’s record adds an extra layer of motivation.
If his current momentum continues, Shalulile could not only rewrite Sundowns’ scoring records but also set new benchmarks for consistency and longevity in the PSL. His next few games may well define how far his legacy stretches in South African football.
