Watch! Njabulo Ngcobo A Maskandi Music Kid!

The 2020/21 DStv Premiership Defender of the Season award winner Njabulo Ngcobo didn’t have a flawless season like the one he had with Swallows prior to joining Kaizer Chiefs last season, however, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s on another level now in off-the-pitch life.

Ngcobo was born in Folweni, KwaZulu-Natal, meaning he is familiar with the culture and the music that the Zulu nation plays. We’ve seen him a couple of times playing Maskandi Music which is sung in the Zulu language. Watch!

What about life on the field?

As aforementioned, Ngcobo’s first season at Chiefs didn’t transpire as expected with Stuart Baxter not fully believing in him, hence he didn’t get so much game time. This might also have negatively affected his confidence.

Ngcobo only featured 14 times in the league and fans were demanding for him to be fielded. When Baxter was sacked towards the end of the season, the interim coach Arthur Zwane started to utilize him even more. But the famous incident that occurred when Chiefs played Arrows when Ngcobo committed costly errors, then was substituted and refused to shake coaches’ hands painted him badly.

However, the former Uthongathi defender apologised. “I am not proud of what I did,” Ngcobo said according to the statement on Chiefs website.

“It was a heat of the moment thing because I made some costly mistakes during the match and it’s not nice knowing that you’ve let the team down as a player, but that does not justify any of my actions. I promise to do better in the future.”

With the new season to start early in August, Ngcobo is surely looking forward to amending his previous season’s errors while he improves his performances in order to redeem his old self.

Bafana Bafana coach has also been overlooking him when calling up the names to represent the national team. Ngcobo has only seven appearances in the national and has a goal under his name.
