Pics! Manti Mekoa Starts Off Life After Football

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder Manti Mekoa has been in the game for a long time and at the age of 36 years, he has reportedly hung up his boots.

Knowing that he’s the guy who likes to go out and chill, that’s exactly what he’s doing now. According to him, he likes the winter season as he captioned a picture of himself out on coffee saying, “Favourite season”. Take a look!

As per KickOff, Mekoa said he would be retiring and returning to Johannesburg where will be focusing on his businesses.

“I don’t think I will have time to continue playing football again,” Mekoa reveals to KickOff.

“I am now back in Johannesburg to focus on growing my business. I have enjoyed my time playing football, and now it’s time to start preparing for life after football.

“I would have loved to end my career on a high like helping Cape Umoya gain promotion to the DStv Premiership.

“But I don’t have regrets as I enjoyed every moment of playing football.”

Mekoa began his career at the University of Pretoria in 2007 catching the eye of the Premier Soccer League clubs as a young star. He then signed for Free State Stars in 2009 where he spent three years before he joined Pirates when they were dominant in the league at the time.

With the midfield position being fought for hard by a number of quality players at Bucs at the time, Mekoa was then loaned to Golden Arrows in January 2014 and returned to the Buccaneers in July.

They loaned him again to Chippa United where he spent the whole season before he was transferred to the KwaZulu-Natal – based side, Maritzburg United. He became a free agent in 2016 for six months before he joined Stellenbosch in January 2017.

He would only spend six months with the Stellies as he then put a pen on paper with Richards Bay FC in KZN. Again another six months he spent at the club before he went to play for Cape Umoya which was his last team in professional football.
