‘Pirates Needs A Coach Like Benni’ – Kamwendo

Orlando Pirates former player Joseph Kamwendo has called for the appointment of Benni McCarthy as a head coach of the Buccaneers.

There’s been rumours for months now that the former AmaZulu coach was going to take over the driving seat at Ezimnyama Ngenkani. Last week the club announced the departure of one of their coaches Fladlu Davids while Mandla Ncikazi is still part of the team.

Many have thrown their support behind McCarthy whom they hope can turn the Sea Robbers’ fortunes around.

“Benni knows football, and he has been there, and Orlando Pirates needs a coach like Benni, a no-nonsense coach that will come in and do the job for the team,” Kamwendo told the Siya crew.

“All of us, even myself, would love to see Benni coaching Pirates because he had shown us when he was at Cape Town City that he is a good coach.

“When he went to AmaZulu, we could see that with little resources, he was producing results. AmaZulu went to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, that’s not a joke.

“I believe if given a chance, we can do the job for us,” added Kamwendo

‘He might come up with the right formulas’ – Tebogo Moloi on McCarthy

The former Malawian international isn’t the first to support Benni as the ex Pirates player and assistant coach Tebogo Moloi also believes that McCarthy understands what it means to be a player of Sea Robbers, thus he’s the right man for the job.

“He [McCarthy] played for the team, he understands what it means to wear the black and white jersey of Orlando Pirates and he has done very well as a coach,” Moloi said in the interview with Malatse Mphahlele.

“He is one of best players we have produced who was able to perform at the highest level of the game. He came at a time when Pirates needed to defend the treble and, honestly, him and Daine Klate did very well with the rest of the other guys.

“For him to be given a chance to coach the team, I think he might come up with the right things. He might come up with the right formulas, talk to the players and make them understand what it means to play for Pirates.

“For me, if he was to be given a chance, I can put my head on a block and say he is the right type of guy to take the team back to winning ways.”
