Pitso Mosimane Reflects Fondly on Transformative Time at Al Ahli Saudi FC

Former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane recently shared heartfelt reflections on his impactful stint as head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli Saudi FC. The celebrated South African tactician fondly recalled the challenges and triumphs that defined his time at the Jeddah-based club.

Mosimane, 61, is widely revered for his monumental success with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he secured two CAF Champions League titles along with numerous domestic trophies during his near three-year tenure. After departing the Red Devils, Mosimane embraced a new challenge in September 2022 by taking charge of Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

Shortly after his unveiling, the former Bafana Bafana coach took to X (formerly Twitter) to rally the club’s supporters:
“Let’s awaken the sleeping giant and the people back to fill the stadium. Very big task but exciting too.”

Three years on, Mosimane’s vision appears to have borne fruit. Although he left after just one season, Al Ahli enjoyed a surge of success culminating in their historic AFC Champions League triumph in the 2024/25 campaign. Reflecting on Mosimane’s early words, one fan praised the coach’s influence, saying:
“This post made us champions.”

Mosimane himself described his move to Saudi Arabia as a calling.
“God ordered me to go to Jeddah, Saudi to whisper something to a sleeping Giant. It responded, woke up and went to conquer the Continent of Asia. I am a big admirer of what is happening there,” he explained.

Throughout his solitary season at Al Ahli, Mosimane also expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from fans, management, and club leadership.
“Love you guys! You believed in me and the project. Without you, the management and the President, we would not have brought the team back. Thanks for the Memories,” he wrote.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician’s legacy in Saudi Arabia is marked not only by immediate results but also by planting the seeds for sustained success. His tenure reignited passion at Al Ahli and set the stage for their continental conquest, underscoring Mosimane’s ability to inspire transformation wherever he coaches.

As Mosimane continues his managerial journey, his time in Saudi Arabia remains a significant chapter — a testament to his vision, leadership, and enduring influence on the game across Africa and Asia.
