PSL Show No Mercy For Sundowns As They Are Forced To Play!

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Motjeka Madisha tragically passed away in a car accident this weekend. In light of this, the club appealed to the PSL to postpone their fixture against TS Galaxy tonight.

PSL Show No Mercy For Sundowns As They Are Forced To Play! Yesterday the PSL confirmed that they have rejected Mamelodi Sundowns’ plea to postpone tonight’s fixture.

Madisha’s passing is even more extraordinary as he is the second Sundowns player to pass away in a car accident in less than a month.

Anele Ngcongca also passed in a fatal car crash in KZN only three weeks ago.

“This season the fact of an incredibly congested fixture due to the impact of COVID-19, means there are even greater pressures on maintaining the fixture. Fixture changes that are not essential will place the completion of the season at risk,” the PSL wrote to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Even where there are exceptional reasons the notice period is there to ensure the League is able to engage all other affected parties, hear their views, and ensure that arrangements that they have already made are impacted as little as possible.

“It is simply not possible, on such short notice, to properly consider the application let alone process it. Again, please accept my condolences, but unfortunately the League is not able to postpone the fixture.”

TS Galaxy’s media manager Minenhle Mkhize confirmed to TimesLIVE that the fixture is set to take place.

“The game is going ahead. In the morning‚ they communicated with us to check which colours we’ll be using for the game. We’ll be going into camp later on Monday afternoon‚” Mkhize said.

This is quite bemusing as clubs had been given postponements in similar circumstances before.

In 2014 the PSL postponed all PSL and NFD matches following the death of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The same treatment was given to Free State Stars last season when winger Sinethemba Jantjie passed away in a car accident. They had their next few matches postponed.
