Rival Attacker Expected Siyabonga Ngezana’s Late Mistake as FCSB Drop Points

Siyabonga Ngezana’s late errors cost FCSB a crucial win over Rapid Bucuresti this past weekend, extending the Romanian champions’ winless run to four matches. The Red and Blues had led 2-0 through Mihai Lixandru and Daniel Birligea but saw their advantage slip in the closing stages.

The turning point came in the 82nd minute when Elvir Koljic scored after connecting with a long throw-in. Ngezana was nudged, and Koljic back-heeled the ball into the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Seconds before full time, Ngezana was dispossessed just outside his box by teenage left-back Andrei Borza. Borza crossed to Koljic, who completed his brace and secured a 2-2 draw for Rapid.

After the match, Rapid defender revealed that he had anticipated Ngezana’s defensive approach. According to Fanatik, he explained, “I watch FCSB matches and Ngezana doesn’t really play long, he doesn’t like that. He likes to fake shots, not to fake clearances. I expected that, I waited until the last moment to see what he would do. Then we had a 1-on-1 duel, I took the ball and crossed. I didn’t want to fall, I wanted to continue the phase, and I’m glad that Elvir scored there.”

The result highlighted ongoing defensive issues for FCSB and underscored the vulnerability of Ngezana, who is adjusting to European football after his move from Kaizer Chiefs. His late mistakes not only cost points but also deepened questions about the team’s ability to close out matches.

FCSB will look to address these lapses quickly as they seek their first league victory since the opening matchday. Meanwhile, Ngezana will need to regain composure and strengthen his defensive decision-making to prevent further costly errors in the early stages of the season.
