Rivaldo Coetzee Update: Former Sundowns Defender Remains a Free Agent

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rivaldo Coetzee remains a free agent after his stint at Chloorkop ended without a contract renewal. Coetzee recently trained with Sekhukhune United, where he was assessed by the technical team under coach Eric Tinkler, but he is no longer part of the squad.

Mike Makaab confirmed that Coetzee is currently recovering from a minor setback. “Nothing at the moment. He had a small setback, so he’s back in the gym,” Makaab said. When asked if Coetzee’s chance at Sekhukhune is over, Makaab added, “Not at all,” indicating the door remains open for the defender.

As a free agent, Coetzee can sign for a club outside the regular transfer window. However, the longer he remains without a team, the more challenging it may become to regain match fitness and reintegrate into competitive play.

Coetzee is among several former top-flight players still searching for new clubs. Other notable free agents include Wayde Jooste, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Thulani Hlatshwayo, and Kwanda Mngonyama. Clubs may monitor these players carefully, especially as defensive reinforcements are often needed mid-season.

For Coetzee, the next move will be crucial in reviving his career and securing regular playing time after leaving Sundowns. His experience at one of South Africa’s top clubs makes him an attractive option for teams seeking defensive solidity.
