Round of 16 2022 FIFA World Cup Review: Argentina Make It to Last 8! The South Americans booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Argentina defeated Australia 2-1 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup last 16 match on Saturday night. They will face the Netherlands in the next round of the tournament.

Going into the match the South Americans were the clear favourites in this one. They have the better players and have the incomparable Lionel Messi in their ranks.

It was their star player who opened the scoring in the first stanza. Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez made the most of a defensive error in the Australia team to make it 2-0.

The Aussies fought back though and were rewarded when Enzo Fernandez deflected an effort into his own net. The Socceroo’s tried with all their might to get an equaliser, but goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez had another inspiring match in goal.

The Albiceleste will play Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The last time these two sides met was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, when Argentina won the semi-final match on penalties.
