Mamelodi Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday night. Despite the victory, head coach Rulani Mokwena was left disappointed in the performance of the team.
Kaizer Chiefs 0:1 Mamelodi Sundowns – DSTV Premiership
The only goal of the game came courtesy of a lovely finish by Neo Maema. Amakhosi threatened to score in the second stanza, but that didn’t materialize.
“First let me start by saying congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, congratulations to the players, congratulations to the supporters, I’m sure this means a lot to them.” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.
“If you really want to know I didn’t like the match, it was too open.
“I think that I will speak to the players about. I spoke to them at halftime about it and I’ll speak to them a little bit about it. But it’s 90 minutes that I don’t like.
“Oh yes, for sure. We beat Kaizer Chiefs and that’s a big positive. I’m not complaining about the quality of the players, I’m not complaining about the win.
“Congratulations to the team, we work very, very hard. But its not 90 minutes that I think we should be repeating, no.
“The performance has a lot of good things, especially when we play very simple. We pass, we move the ball, and we get into the right positions a little bit quick enough before the opposition arrives.
“But when it lacks the simplicity, it becomes a little too open and I don’t like when a game is too open. I like a little bit of control. But congratulations, we beat Kaizer Chiefs. It’s a big team and we are a big team for sure, these are the games we have to win.
“Congratulations to the football club, congratulations to the supporters.” He concluded.
