SA Football Stars Who Have Been Arrested For GBV. Thembinkosi’s arrest on Monday was the latest case of this nature. Previously, an unsavoury amount of PSL players had been arrested for assaulting women. In almost all cases, the women assaulted are the players’ partners.
The players themselves often cite this behaviour to heated arguments that went out of scale. This is a poor excuse for such indecent behaviour. We take a look at SA football stars who have been arrested for GBV.
Andile Jali
The Sundowns midfielder was arrested for assaulting his wife Nonhle in 2018. This happened in Jali’s Pretoria East home. The midfielder allegedly came home drunk, late into the night.
He repeatedly struck Nonhle before she was able to escape. She was help by a neighbour who put her into her vehicle. Andile Jali then crashed into the vehicle in attempt to stop them from fleeing.
He was arrested by the Boschkop police and charged with assault as well as damage to property.
Thembinkosi Lorch
The Orlando Pirates winger was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning. This came after he had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Nokuphiwa Mathithibela.
The South African public was outraged when he was released on R2 000 bail. Lorch is set to appear in court on the 18th of October.

Tendai Ndoro
Tendai Ndoro was arrested in 2018 for assaulting his wife. After an altercation, his wife attempted to flee from the star striker. He apparently pinned her down and choked her. He then threw a TV at her, but she ducked out of the way.
His wife reports that he has a history of violent altercations. He had previously gotten angry at a family gathering after forcing his wife to sign some documents. He was infuriated by the fact that the couple were not legally married, only traditionally married.
Justin Shonga
Yet another Orlando Pirates affiliate. As of June 2020, the star striker was a wanted man by the SAPS. Shonga had allegedly missed several court hearings after being arrested for assaulting a string of women.
He had been due to appear in court after his latest incident, but avoided it. The Zambian is now on the police’s wanted list.
Milutin “Michu” Sredojevic
The former Orlando Pirates head coach apparently fled the country because of a sexual assault case. Michu abruptly quit his Orlando Pirates post before leaving for Turkey. An unnamed woman, 51 years old, said that she’d been struggling to sleep.
This sexual assault incident had apparently happened in Ilovo, Johannesburg. Michu cited his mother’s frail health as the reason to abruptly leave. He was however pictured in Egypt, in preparation to take the Zamalek job.
