SAFA To Weigh Their Options After FIFA Dismisses Refereeing Case! This followed the associations attempt to replay a World Cup qualifying fixture.
FIFA has dismissed SAFA’s case to replay a crucial fixture against Ghana last week. The association has since announced that they will consider what other options they can pursue.
Ghana defeated South Africa 1-0 in their final FIFA World Cup qualifying group fixture in November. The deciding goal was an extremely dubious penalty.
Defender Rushine De Reuck was adjudged to have committed a foul in the penalty area in the early stages of the game. However, replay suggested that there was no infringement and that no foul was committed.
SAFA then opened a case with FIFA to replay the game with completely different and new officials.
“The South African Football Association (SAFA) will consider its options after the world football governing body (FIFA) dismissed its protest following Bafana Bafana’s controversial 1-0 loss to the Black Stars of Ghana last month.
“SAFA CEO, Advocate Tebogo Monthlante said once SAFA gets reasons for the outcome, will sit down and weigh its options.” A statement by the association read.
“We have received the decision without details, and we will request FIFA for the reasons and consider our options.” Monthlante confirmed.
