Mamelodi Sundowns will play Cape Town City in the first domestic cup final of the season. Midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi believes that adequate preparation will help them in the crunch tie.
The last time The Brazilians won the Top 8 trophy was way back in 2007. At the time, it was under the SAA Super 8 moniker.
Since then, they have won every single domestic and continental trophy available. They finally have the opportunity to grab the elusive MTN 8 cup.
However, they are coming up against stern competition in the form of Cape Town City. They are far from pushovers.
As a result, Vila is adamant that they need to prepare for what will be a tough game.
“It’s a cup final with expectations, but the most important is to take it day by day and focus on our training sessions [because] those training sessions in particular will help to prepare for the prize on the weekend.” He told the Mamelodi Sundowns website.
“We deal with this pressure on a daily basis, we take every training session very importantly and we prepare very well with those training sessions and that will lead up to us being ready for the final.”
The MTN 8 has been described as a hoodoo for Masandawana, as it has been 14 years since they won the trophy.
“We know that it’s very important for us to lift this trophy. It’s important for us to make history and it’s important for us to make the team stay on top as much as we can.
“It’s important for us to keep the momentum of winning things because we are a team that is always looking to strive to dominate. This is an opportunity for us to dominate and put the trophy in front of us and celebrate and show our greatness as we start winning everything.” Vilakazi added
