Allan eyeing PSL promotion

The University of Pretoria defender Keagan Allan is hoping that they will be able to secure the promotion when they compete in the PSL Promotion Play-Offs against Cape Town All-Stars and Swallows FC.

Ama-Tuks lost the opportunity to be promoted automatically to Richards Bay FC as the KwaZulu-Natal side finished as log-leaders of the Glad Africa Championship while the Pretoria side fell into the runners-up position.

Allan says they may be pleased with the Play-Offs opportunity but they still have the sour feeling of letting the automatic promotion slip.

“I think it’s a mixture of both, we excited for the opportunity to redeem ourselves but very disappointed to let it slip like that,” Allan told iDiski Times.

“It’s very difficult to say [if we have an advantage over Swallows and All Stars] when it comes to friendlies is one thing but an actual competitive game it’s a different story.

“Swallows are they carry a lot of quality and so do All-Stars, I don’t think anyone should undermine them as they have a lot of quality and experience so we have to do what we can.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender is nominated along with his teammate Luvuyo Phewa and Royal AM’s Mfundo Thikazi for Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player for the 2021/22 season. He says it’s a great achievement for the team as a whole.

“I thought I had a good Nedbank, it was great exposure for me but that’s an amazing award out of the 100s of teams that are in the competition from SAB to PSL, it’s a great achievement, for the team itself,” Allan added.

“I couldn’t have done it have done it without the head coach, the technical team behind me and all the players around me, I’m looking forward to it but to be honest my head of nowhere near that – I’m just focused on the play-offs, try and get it over with and get into the PSL.”
