Bafana Bafana take on Morocco in their final AFCON Qualifier this Saturday. Defender Siyanda Xulu is hoping that they can use the match to honour Clive Barker.
Barker passed away over the previous weekend after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). He is remembered as the only coach to lead Bafana Bafana to AFCON glory, back in 1996.
This weekend’s match is an opportunity to dedicate a great performance to him.
Both South Africa and Morocco have already sealed their spot at next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast, meaning this match will be a dead rubber. If anything, its also an opportunity for Bafana Bafana to test their level against the highest ranked African team on the FIFA rankings.
“It’s very important to be well determined for this game because we usually play these big games when there’s too much pressure,” Xulu told the press.
“By doing well [against Morocco], that will make us play without the added pressure where we can measure ourselves in terms of where we are as team. Like I said, this is a new team, but we have taken positive step that are promising.
“Regarding Mr Barker, it will make me happy if we play well to represent him and send him off well.” He spoke.
