Small sized players to make impact in S.A football
The frame of player is considered by many as a key ingredient in determining the extent to which they will excel. Some small sized players to come out of South Africa have over the years shown that size does not matter.
Steven Pienaar is a typical example of a player with small size, yet they have had a startling career. Pienaar began at Ajax Cape Town before catching the attention of Ajax Amsterdam. In England Pienaar has played for Tottenham before moving to Everton.
Benedict Vilikazi is a typical example of another small sized player to show that size does not matter. Vilikazi turned out for Orlando Pirates at his peak before moving to Denmark. Vilikazi then returned home and featured for Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Jabu Pule was an exceptional player who regardless of his size gave defenders a hard time. At one time rated as the most skillful players in South Africa Pule excelled while at Kaizer Chiefs.
Steve Lekoela was handed the number 10 jersey at Orlando Pirates after Irvin Khoza’s realisation that the pint sized player was a gem. Lekoela’s dribbling skills, great vision and lethal nature with the dead ball made him a dangerous player.
