South African Clubs Show Strength in 2025 CAF Club Rankings

The latest 2025 CAF Club Rankings reveal the growing influence of South African teams in African football. Mamelodi Sundowns continue to lead the pack, maintaining second place behind Egypt’s Al Ahly with 62 points.

Under coach Miguel Cardoso, Sundowns’ consistent success in domestic leagues and deep runs in the CAF Champions League keep them among Africa’s elite clubs.

Orlando Pirates hold 15th place with 30 points. Their recent revival in continental competitions, including reaching the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup final and solid Champions League performances, has helped maintain their status near the top.

Stellenbosch FC is a notable rising force, ranked 21st with 14 points. The Cape Winelands club’s progress on and off the pitch reflects their rapid growth in South African football.

Marumo Gallants rank 31st with nine points. Their strong showings in the CAF Confederation Cup demonstrate their potential despite current struggles in domestic play.

Kaizer Chiefs sit at 50th place with five points, a drop linked to their absence from CAF tournaments since the 2021 Champions League final. Their return this season via the CAF Confederation Cup will be key to regaining higher standing.

Sekhukhune United (51st), AmaZulu FC (55th), and SuperSport United (now Siwelele FC) at 63rd complete South Africa’s presence in the top 75 clubs.

CAF rankings prioritize recent seasons, rewarding consistent participation and results. South African teams outside the top 20 will aim to improve their position with strong performances in this year’s continental competitions.
