Kaizer Motaung Jr. Signals More Signings as Chiefs Prepare for Busy Season

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has hinted at further arrivals as the club prepares for a demanding 2025/26 season.
The Nedbank Cup winners will open their Betway Premiership campaign against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Sunday. The fixture offers Chiefs a chance to start strong and reassure fans after last season’s ninth-place finish.
Motaung stressed the importance of a good start, citing a congested schedule due to the AFCON break and next year’s World Cup. Chiefs will also compete in the CAF Confederation Cup, which adds to the workload.
“It is crucial for us to start strongly, as the games will come thick and fast this season due to the AFCON break, in December and next year being a World Cup year,” Motaung said. “Additionally, we’ll be participating in the CAF Confederation Cup, meaning our schedule will be tight and busy.”
Chiefs have already signed six new players: Thabiso Monyane, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Flavio Silva, Siphesihle Ndlovu, and Nkanyiso Shinga.
Despite these additions, Motaung confirmed the club is still looking to strengthen further.
“We believe we have reinforced key areas within the squad, but we know that recruitment is an ongoing process,” he said.
Reflecting on their pre-season, Motaung highlighted the team’s trip to the Netherlands, where they focused on fitness and tactics. They also played behind closed doors against local PSL opposition to prepare for the league start.
“We are very happy to be back in one of CAF’s prestigious competitions. We aim to build on our successful run in 2021 when we reached the CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly,” he added.
The match kicks off at 17:30. Chiefs hope to use this opportunity to set a positive tone for the season ahead.
