South African football stars have once again made their mark across the African continent over the weekend, with standout performances that have captivated fans. Percy Tau and Khanyisa Mayo were in action for Al Ahly and CR Belouizdad, respectively, while Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC continued their dominance in the Tanzanian Premier League.

Al Ahly’s Dominance Over CR Belouizdad

In a thrilling CAF Champions League encounter, Percy Tau’s Al Ahly thrashed Khanyisa Mayo’s CR Belouizdad 6-1 in a game that saw plenty of action. The match, which took place on Sunday, featured a dramatic comeback by the Egyptian giants after going 1-0 down in the 21st minute to an Aimen Mahious goal for Belouizdad. However, Al Ahly found their rhythm just before halftime with Wessam Abou Ali’s equalizer, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.

The second half belonged entirely to Al Ahly as Abou Ali stole the show, netting two sensational goals. His first came from a brilliant free kick in the 51st minute, and his second was a stunning long-range strike in the 84th minute. Percy Tau then added to the excitement with a brilliant strike from outside the box, further cementing Al Ahly’s dominant position. Emam Ashour completed the rout in stoppage time, adding a sixth goal for the Egyptians.

With this emphatic victory, Al Ahly now sit comfortably at the top of Group C with seven points, two clear of Orlando Pirates, who drew 1-1 against Stade d’Abidjan. Belouizdad, on the other hand, remain in third place with three points from their three group matches.

Simba SC’s Thrilling 5-2 Victory

In Tanzania, Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC ended the weekend on a high, climbing to the top of the Tanzanian Premier League standings with a resounding 5-2 victory over Kagera Sugar FC. The win saw Simba SC extend their lead at the top of the table with an impressive 11 wins, one draw, and only one loss from their 13 matches so far this season.

Steven Mukwala was the star of the show, scoring twice, while Mohamed Hussein, Shomari Kapombe, Jean Charles Ahoua, and Fabrice Ngoma also contributed to the scoreline. Kagera Sugar’s Cleophace Mkandala and Peter Datius managed late consolation goals, but it was Simba SC’s commanding performance that dominated the game. With this victory, Simba SC now holds a one-point lead over Young Africans SC, setting the stage for an intense battle for the league title.

Esperance’s Struggles in Tunisia

While South African stars were shining abroad, Elias Mokwana was absent from the matchday squad as his team, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, played out a 2-2 draw against Club Africain in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1. Despite a solid performance in recent matches, Esperance struggled to maintain their winning ways, with this draw marking their fifth of the season from 11 games. With five wins and one loss, they currently sit fifth in the league, six points behind leaders US Monastir.

The weekend’s action showcased the brilliance and determination of South African footballers across the continent.
