Stars appoint new coach
Free State Stars confirmed the appointment of their new head coach for the upcoming season, after Serame Letsoaka’s exit.
Ea Lla Koto has brought in Sammy Troughton, who nearly led Stellenbosch FC to promotion, to lead the team for the 2017/18 season, with the Irish coach having signed a two-year contract at the club.
The 53-year-old, who has spent many years coaching and playing in South Africa, saw his Stellenbosch side miss out on a top-flight spot in the 2016/17 promotion, but he will get his chance back in the big leagues on a personal level.
Stars finished 14th last season as they avoided the play-offs because of their superior goal difference and Mokoena’s club will be hoping for better under Troughton this season, as they target a higher position in the league.
